“Sacred music, with its own great tradition, can and does have a relevant task of assisting in the rediscovery of God, a return to the Christian message and the mysteries of the faith”.
— Benedict XVI.

Music and song enhances the solemnity of our liturgies and raises our hearts and voices to God.

At St. George’s Parish we are blessed with many different musical styles and talents. Click below to read more and listen to some audioclips.

Contemporary Liturgical Music - Praise and Worhip

Contemporary Worship Music is played at the 10:30 am Sunday Mass.

Mass is where we foster our relationship with God and with each other. Our Mass is strengthened by the overflowing wellspring of love for Christ that our choir brings – it fills us up and brings us together as a community.

We are called to evangelize through sacred music because song nurtures our prayers and deepens our relationship with God and each other. Music includes traditional and contemporary anthems and hymns accompanied by acoustic guitar, piano and harmonic voices.

Coram Deo Choir

The St. George’s Coram Deo Choir sings the Sunday 9:00 am Chanted Mass in the Ordinary Form. Our members volunteer their time and talent.

The Christian faithful who come together as one in expectation of the Lord’s coming are instructed by the Apostle Paul to sing together Psalms, hymns, and spiritual canticles. Singing is the sign of the heart’s joy thus, according to the ancient proverb, “Whoever sings well prays twice over.”

The chant of the Roman Rite represents the very voice of the Faith, a true prayer in song, one that draws all generations of Catholics together in the Mass.

We invite adults and children ages 8 and up to join us to learn Chant and other sacred music for the Mass with the Coram Deo Choir.  Individuals and families welcome.

We practice at St. George's two to three times a month on Monday evenings from 6:15 - 7:45.

Funeral Music

Funeral Music

The Funeral Mass is the most important ritual among the ceremonies traditionally observed to honor the deceased. This is a great opportunity to worship God, give thanks, and to commend the decedent into His care.

At St. George’s, Funeral Masses are normally scheduled Monday to Friday at 11:00am. The central building blocks of this Mass are readings (from the Lectionary) and prayers (from the Missal and the Rite of Christian Funerals) that express the Catholic faith about death and resurrection, and about the “last things.” It is also important to express feelings of mourning and sadness, without undue sentimentalism, but instead fostering hope in redemption, forgiveness, and eternal life.

In addition to the Biblical readings and the liturgical prayers, funerals also have their own kind of sacred music: Catholic hymns or songs which are sung, chanted or recited during the ceremony to intercede for the deceased, to express hope, offer consolation, and remind the mourners about the resurrection of Jesus Christ so that the pain of death is ultimately uplifting.

These hymns, along with helpful guidelines for the celebration, are contained in a freshly revised funeral booklet (see following link). Alternative music cannot normally be included in funerals at St. George’s, not only because the time to prepare is generally short, but mostly because we want to foster a renewal of our funeral culture for which adequate music is essential.
