Preparing for First Reconciliation

Family-Based. Flexible. Personal. Christ-Centred.

As first heralds of the Gospel to their children, parents will catechize their children and prepare them for their first confession. An important aspect of this preparation is for parents to also receive the sacrament of reconciliation themselves. For this purpose, parents provided with catechetical material and meet regularly with a faith formator at St. George’s Parish.

Below you can see the simple steps that go into preparing your candidate for First Reconciliation:

Step 1: Application

To begin, tell us a bit about your family and your candidate. In your application you will have the opportunity to tell us a bit about your candidate and your family, as well as indicate your readiness to participate in sacramental preparation. You can apply whenever you and your family are ready.

Step 2:

Follow Up

Once we have received and reviewed your application, we will reach out to you for a follow-up meeting. In this meeting, we will go over hopes and expectations, as well as the opportunity to ask additional questions.

Step 3:

Blessed and Accompaniment

After your follow up session, you and your family will begin Blessed - First Reconciliation by Dynamic Catholic. With effective and easy to learn materials, including a beautiful workbook and digital world-class animations, your family will learn about God’s love and mercy in the sacrament of Confession.

Your family will also have the opportunity to meet a faith-formator at St. George’s Parish during Accompaniment Sessions where we walk together to check in and help in preparation.

Step 4: Review and Scheduling

Woo hoo! You have finished Blessed - First Reconciliation! Once finished, candidate will hand in their materials for review at the parish, and we will work together to schedule a time for your candidate to receive first reconciliation.

Step 5:

Receiving First Reconciliation

Your candidate and family will have the opportunity to experience God’s love in first (or perhaps the first time in a long time) reconciliation.

Beyond First Reconciliation

For your candidate, they will then begin preparation for First Holy Communion, and adults will be invited into an adult faith-study to explore and deepen their faith.

Similar to the preparation for First Confession, for First Holy Communion, children are prepared to encounter and receive Jesus in the Holy Eucharist. Preparation for the Sacrament is done by the family of the communicant, with a regular opportunity to meet with a faith formator at St. George’s.
