Proclaiming the 1st and 2nd Readings from the books of the Old and/or New Testament, Readers perform a crucial ministry for the celebration of the Mass.

They may also announce the Mass Intention before Mass begins, or make other announcements.

When a Deacon is not present, they will also lead the Prayers of the Faithful (Intercessions).
